English must be used for papers, posters and presentations at the conference.
FORM OF PRESENTATION
Plenary lectures: 50 min including discussion
Section keynotes: 40 min including discussion
Other orals: 20 min including discussion Current audio-visual aids will be available, inclusive dataprojector (connected computer is equiped by the MS Powerpoint 2003 and the Adobe Reader). Private laptop computer can be connected as well.
Poster presentation: panels for poster presentation, 135×95 cm (height x width), will be available during the whole conference time. Authors are asked to fix the posters in the beginning of the conference program and to be present at their posters at least during the block reserved for poster presentations.
PUBLICATIONS AND PROCEEDINGS
Abstract booklet containing one-page abstracts will be available at the conference time simultaneously with a CD containing full papers. Instructions for authors will be sent together with the 2nd Announcement (and published here).
Special issues of the scientific journals "Engineering Fracture Mechanics", "Engineering Failure Analysis" and "International Journal of Fatigue" devoted to the ECF17 will appear during the year 2009. Papers for these issues (based on the conference full papers) will be selected by section chairmen and conference chairmen. The papers undergo a standard review procedure.
SHORT ABSTRACTS
A short abstract containing max 200 words (plain text) is a part of the pre-registration form. It should serve for the decision of an acceptance of the contribution. Authors were notified of the acceptance of their abstracts and presentations in December 2007.

GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORS
Following items are mandatory for each accepted contribution:
- Extended abstract, size 1 page (the best layout of the whole A4 page), prepared in electronic MS Word format,
according to enclosed instructions (for the abstract booklet). Use file ECF17abs.dot as template or read the same information in the file ECF17abs.pdf.

Manuscript for the conference proceedings on the CDROM prepared according to enclosed
instructions. Extent: 8 pages for standard contributions. Authors should also keep DOC versions of their manuscripts (for eventual corrections). Use file ECF17pap.dot as template or read the same information in the file ECF17pap.pdf.
- The conference fee must be payed by May 31, at latest (simmultaneously with the deadline for submission of the extended abstract and the manuscript).
The contribution should be prepared in the electronic form as a standard document format DOC, and a suitable text editor (as MS Word97-2003) should be used. The manuscript is to be submitted by using the ECF17 registration form (do not send by e-mail!). We strongly recommend to convert the electronic version into the PDF format and to submit both DOC and PDF versions to the Organizing Committee. If you cannot prepare the PDF version, a print-out of the valid electronic version should be made and sent to the Organizing Committee by surface mail.
